Sofema Aviation Services has the answer!

The management of aircraft technical records whether from an operator’s perspective (Lessee) or representing the aircraft owner (Lessor) is 2 sides of the same story and whilst the operator is mandated to ensure the continuing airworthiness of the aircraft, the lessor is absolutely focused on managing the “asset” to protect their investment.

If you are looking to work either as a tech records specialist with the Airlines or to support the lessor organization – this course will provide a significant understanding of the many obligations, process & procedures which come together to manage an aircraft.

SofemaOnline takes a look at the importance of Aircraft Technical Records within the context of Aircraft Leasing

When an aircraft has significant disconnects in the integrity of the records the value of the aircraft can be substantially affected. (Any lapses in maintenance documentation can be used as financial leverage). Airlines routinely spend up to $2000,000 USD related to narrow body returns and the majority of lease return costs relate to disconnects in the aircraft technical records.

The Value of an Aircraft equal is Technical Records?

Well, when you consider that without the Technical Records which support the aircraft it will not be able to fly then it is effectively a true statement!

Without Doubt the above subjects are very important in respect of the need to manage competence within both the Maintenance Management and Maintenance Delivery Environment recognizing improvement in the need to ensure competence. EASA mandated in February 2010 the need to ensure competence within the CAMO workplace. Commission Regulation (EU) No 127/2010 | EASA

This was amplified in 2011 when EASA again issued specific regulations associated with the management of competence ED Decision 2011-011-R - EASA - Europa
Maintenance Planning is a function of the Continuous Airworthiness Management Organization (CAMO) and both SAS and SOL offers a broad range of courses ranging from a single day to a 5 days integrated training.
Production Planning is an Essential function of the EASA 145 organization and provides a structure whereby the effective management of maintenance delivery process may be correctly coordinated and managed.
Technical Records is actually required for both the CAMO organization (Belonging to the Operator) and for the 145 organization (Belonging to the Maintainer).

SofemaOnline ( features European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) & Gulf Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) selection of Technical Terms to be found in Aircraft Technical Records.

Part 1 Airworthiness Directive

An Airworthiness Directive or AD is issued when there is a problem with the aircraft which MUST be resolved. AD are issued only by the Regulatory Authority – Federal Airworthiness Authority – FAA or EASA or CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) Compliance with AD’s is mandatory!

Airworthiness Limitation Item

An Airworthiness Limitation or (ALI) is issued after the design analysis has been carried out. So they are typically available at the delivery of the very first aircraft. Compliance with ALI’s is also mandatory.

What are Aircraft Technical Records?

At first it might seem obvious. However as we dig a little deeper we uncover a set of rules and regulations which describes exactly what we mean by both Aircraft Technical Records as well as Aircraft Continuing Airworthiness Records. Typically Part M/CAR M Requirements relate to Continuing Airworthiness Records and Aircraft Records primarily relate to Part 145/CAR 145. However there are difference to discuss and in addition there are other Aircraft Technical Records which are relevant to either the CAR/Part M organisation or the CAR/Part 145 Organisation.
