Introduction

The impact of any emergency or crisis can be far reaching and without doubt it is essential to deal sensitively in the most effective way and to protect the good name of the organisation.

ERP Managers and Nominated Deputies need to have the competence to manage the organisation both into a crises situation, to manage correctly and to return to normal operations following the standing down of the various ERP & Go Team Activities.

Note - Aviation ERP training for all staff who will engage in any way with the emergency is essential to ensure the situation is managed in the most effective way.

Building an effective aviation ERP

A strong ERP builds on the knowledge of the various business leaders who are the  subject matter experts coupled with competence and knowledge of the ERP - “Organisation Toolkit”

-The leadership team as well as business area owners should have the capacity to engage with the ERP and to be able to serve as effective members of the Crises team.

- All persons who are required to engage with the ERP at any level should have  “Role Appropriate” training to ensure detailed knowledge and awareness of the fundamentals related to crises and emergency planning and response.

- All persons who engage with the ERP should have a fundamental understanding of the documented process & procedures as well as checklists and this should be auditable and measured.

- Communication throughout the crisis is off paramount importance. The crises centre should have up to date status throughout the emergency. Persons with the authority to make PR statements on behalf of the organisation should be carefully chosen and provided with competence building training where necessary.

- Training should be provided to ensure that key staff are prepared to meet the challenge of addressing an accident, emergency or crises. It is important that key personnel have the trust and confidence of there colleagues during these uncertain times.

- The business will typically need to ensure continuity throughout the emergency so it is essential that the business continues to protect existing obligations customers and activities.

- Ensure up to date contact information is available for all senior station staff as well as go team members.

- Ensure a process to deal with post emergency recovery – linked to business continuity. Implement post emergency review process to consider any potential improvements and or mitigations related to identified problems.
