EASA 145 Practical Training & On the Job Training Considerations

EASA Regulations Provide for EASA Part 145 Organisational Theoretical & Practical Training in support of Task Training for CAT A and CAT B2 Aircraft Engineers.

In Addition, EASA Regulations provide for On the Job Training (OJT) following completion of the First Type Training in each Category.

66.A.45 Endorsement with aircraft ratings

In addition to the requirement of point (b), the endorsement of the first aircraft type rating within a given category/sub-category requires satisfactory completion of the corresponding On the Job Training, as described in Appendix III to Annex III (Part-66)

145.A.35(n) and AMC 145.A.35(n)

The holder of a category A aircraft maintenance licence may only exercise certification privileges on a specific aircraft type following the satisfactory completion of the relevant category A aircraft task training carried out by an organisation appropriately approved in accordance with Annex II (Part-145) or Annex IV (Part-147).

This training shall include practical hands on training and theoretical training as appropriate for each task authorised.

Satisfactory completion of training shall be demonstrated by an examination or by workplace assessment carried out by the organisation.

145.A.35(o) and AMC 145.A.35(o)

The holder of a category B2 aircraft maintenance licence may only exercise the certification privileges described in point 66.A.20(a)(3)(ii) of Annex III (Part-66) following the satisfactory completion of:

  1. The relevant category A aircraft task training
  2. Six months of documented practical experience covering the scope of the authorisation that will be issued

The task training shall include practical hands on training and theoretical training as appropriate for each task authorised.

Satisfactory completion of training shall be demonstrated by an examination or by workplace assessment.

Task training and examination/assessment shall be carried out by the maintenance organisation issuing the certifying staff authorisation.

The practical experience shall be also obtained within such maintenance organisation.

The Task Supervisor

The Task Supervisor shall be designated following acceptance and completion of Task Supervisor Training.

He shall be an appropriately qualified licensed aircraft maintenance engineer employed by RAS Tech and holding a Full B1 approval on the aircraft Type.

The Role of the Task Supervisor is to:

  1. Act as coach (setting objectives, giving training, performing supervision, evaluating, handling trainee’s reactions and cultural issues, managing objectively and positively debriefing sessions, determining the need for extra training or re orientate the training, reporting, etc.)
  2. Be designated by the approved maintenance organisation to carry out the supervision
  3. The supervisor shall confirm the required entries by appending his/her name, signature and licence number in the appropriate column

The Assessor

The assessor shall be an appropriately qualified licensed aircraft maintenance engineer employed by a Part-145 maintenance organisation and authorised as OJT Assessor.

The Role of the Assessor is to:

a) Conduct the final assessment of the completed OJT practical.

b) This assessment shall ensure confirmation of the completion of all tasks following completion by the Logbook Holder and Task Supervisor.

c) The Assessor shall ensure that the logbook holder is able to:

1) Identify the appropriate standards; and

2) Select and use the correct tools for the task/process.

3) When confirming entries, assessors shall sign and print their names and identify their position within the 145 Organisation
