SofemaOnline – www.sofemaonline.com  considers the role of Dynamic Communication

Communication is actually a very dynamic process going far beyond the words we say. Whilst Communication essentially encompasses both language and speech it includes also the ability to share our thoughts and experiences in a meaningful way using other ways and means, for example body language.

Another way to look at Communication is to accept that it is a broadband process which is essentially made up of many single band processes. Consider that the actual speech used as well as each different type of non-verbal aspect can be considered as single elements that together make up the broadband process of communication.

We are able even without realizing that it is taking place to process multiple modes of communication is an automatic, part of our problem is that we do not even need to hear all of what is being said before we have begun to formulate our response!

We should all agree that effective communication must be a two way activity (transmit & receive). The first rule of communication is that it is not complete until the message has been validated and received. Another challenge is that we will all typically confirm a critical message, conversely, we tend not to do this for simple communications.

Mixed Messages!

Effective reception can be challenged when people are transmitting ambiguous messages using multiple modes which conflict. A sent message may be considered as either verbal and non-verbal. The potential exposure occurs when people who are message receivers ignore or misinterpret non-verbal signals the clarity of communication can be lost.

Personal Action Point - Confirming messages is relatively simple, if we make the effort.

If we lose focus then our ability to process the information is compromised and this can easily lead to breakdowns and misinterpretations. Herein lies the challenge because we have the capacity to fill in the blanks and sometimes when we do this we subconsciously bias the summation of information we are processing.

Should we then pass on verbally this information we will have changed the value and weighting of the content – such serial communications can provide significant distortions to the message.

Can we improve our communication skills?

Sure we can in fact at a certain time in our lives we all need help in engaging in effective communication strategies.

Communication training is most effective when accomplished in groups. Once learned communication skills may be successfully applied to one on one relationships.

During the communication process during the listening to while taking in, processing, and responding to the person you are talking with.
